Martin Spencer founded Marlin Engineering in 2002 (http://www.marlinengineer.com/) to provide FAA Flammability DER services. Marlin is now also the #1 seller of FAA-approved flammability test equipment in the world.
In this presentation to EAA Chapter 818, Martin reviews the history of FAA flammability standards for aircraft interiors. He discusses particular aircraft accidents which prompted adoption of new standards to allow more time to evacuate the aircraft in the event of a fire. Martin also details the various tests and testing equipment required to meet the current standards.
