During a two-week U.S. tour that included a state dinner at the White House with President George W.H. Bush and first lady Barbara Bush in 1991, the British monarch, joined by her husband, Prince Philip, visited Texas.
On May 20, 1991, Elizabeth II came to Austin where she visited with Lady Bird Johnson, Gov. Ann Richards. She also traveled to the Texas State House, where she delivered brief remarks and her husband toured the headquarters for Sematech, a group formed by the federal government and computer companies to facilitate the manufacturing of semiconductors.
