In this video, I’ll show you how to remove duct tape residue on smooth, painted surfaces. Always do a small test patch of the gasoline in a hidden area before proceeding, to ensure that it will not tarnish your surface. All you’ll need is a little bit of unleaded gasoline, gloves, and a dry cloth.
1. Wet the cloth with a little gas, then dab it onto the tape residue. If the adhesive is really dry, for example if it’s been in direct sunlight for a while, leave to sit for a few minutes to soften up.
2. Gently rub the adhesive with the cloth. It should come off as it softens up. Reapply more gasoline as necessary.
3. When you’re finished, be sure to rinse any gasoline residue off with plain water or lightly soapy water.
Months later and the paint still looks great on my lamp post.
