The train ride from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi was a journey through time and nature. Leaving the bustling city behind, the train chugged slowly through the Thai countryside, offering panoramic views of lush green rice fields, winding rivers, and small, peaceful villages. The open windows let in a refreshing breeze, and the rhythmic sound of the tracks created a calming backdrop for the journey. It was an unhurried and scenic way to reach Kanchanaburi, perfect for soaking in the beauty of rural Thailand.
Upon arrival, one of the highlights was visiting the historic Kawai Bridge, part of the infamous Death Railway built during World War II. Standing on the bridge was a powerful experience, evoking deep reflection on the sacrifices of those who constructed it under harsh conditions. The surrounding area was peaceful, with the River Kwai flowing gently beneath, a stark contrast to the bridge’s grim past.
In the evening, the JJ Night Market offered a lively contrast to the solemnity of the bridge. The market buzzed with energy—stalls selling everything from delicious street food to handcrafted souvenirs, live music filling the air, and friendly locals creating a welcoming atmosphere. It was a perfect place to sample Thai delicacies and experience local culture.
My stay at Good Times Resort truly lived up to its name. Nestled along the riverbank, the resort was a serene haven after a day of exploration. The rooms were cozy and well-maintained, the staff were incredibly warm and helpful, and the riverside restaurant served delicious meals with a view. Waking up to the sound of the river and birdsong was the perfect start to each day.
Overall, this trip to Kanchanaburi blended history, nature, and comfort into a deeply enriching experience.
