In this video, I take a walk around Dahab, Egypt at night. We'll stroll through the tourist center and pass by dozens of shops and restaurants.
Dahab is a small town located on the Southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula. It's about 50 miles (80km) to the northeast of the popular resort city, Sharm el-Sheikh. The population is around 15,000.
This town really comes alive at night. During the day, Dahab feels pretty. Probably because it's so hot. At night, it cools off and everyone is out and about. It's really active. The city is also lit up beautifully.
As you'll see in the video, Dahab is extremely touristy. Probably the biggest draw here is scuba diving. The Red Sea has some of the best diving in the world. Dahab is also a famous windsurfing destination. In addition, Dahab is a jumping-off point for hiking Mt. Sinai. It's also a nice little town with lots of restaurants and shops to explore.
In recent years, Dahab has become incredibly popular among digital nomads because the cost of living is incredibly low. Dahab is also easy to access from Europe. The visa is also easy. This makes it an attractive destination.
After traveling in mainland Egypt, I took a flight from Luxor to Sharm el-Sheikh. From there, I took a taxi to Dahab.
It turned out to be one of my favorite places in Egypt. It's different from mainland Egypt. Dahab is much more relaxed. You can walk around without anyone bothering you or trying to scam you. It's not like Cairo. It's also really affordable. I stayed in a budget hotel for around $16 per night.
To me, it's not a great digital nomad destination though. It's just too small for my taste. I only stayed in Dahab for about a week. I would have stayed a bit longer but my Egypt visa was about to expire. I decided to just leave instead of extending it. I think I would have gotten bored after a month.
Overall, I recommend Dahab if you're traveling in the Sinai. It's a beautiful little town on the Red Sea with great diving, great food, and friendly people. I found it much more interesting than Sharm el-Sheikh. It's touristy but it still feels authentic. There aren't any big resorts or anything like that. I would definitely go back.
