The European Biochar Industry Consortium (EBI) hosted a webinar with Dr Marie-Liesse Aubertin, who presented her work on biochar persistence in soil and its quantification using the Rock-Eval® thermal analysis method.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰
Biochar particles have been shown to move in the environment due to their low density and as they mainly accumulate as free particles. However, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 and needs a precise quantification. A method to quantify biochar in agricultural soils has been proposed by 𝗔𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗹. 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸-𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹® 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀.

Dr. Marie-Liesse Aubertin is 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿-𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 at IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN). Her expertise bridges soil science, biochar applications, and innovative carbon measurement techniques.
