Der Geher in Hamburg: Volksdorf

I am Der Geher and I am out and about in Volksdorf. In the north of the district, the path starts at the Hoisbüttel stop and runs along the Lottbek. It then heads south through meadows and fields on both sides of the city boundary. Back along the railroad line, the trail follows the tracks until it reaches a memorial stone to an old stop after Buckhorn station.

In the hope of creating new residential areas in Volksdorf the Walddörferbahn was build in 1912. From 1920, the railroad line ran as far as Barmbek and was thus connected to the existing subway network. After the war, one of the first major projects to be built was the Wensenbalken housing estate. It was built between 1922 and 1929, mainly for people returning from the war.
