In Japan, we send postcards, which is called Nengajo, to our friends and people who we care about as New Year greetings. It is an old Japanese custom. Most of us use the postcards that are sold at the post office and with the lottery. So, we can enjoy reading messages from our friends on New Year’s Day, and the lottery later, which means a postcard will bring some joy to you.
Also, we enjoy drawing with our own unique designs on the back of postcards. In general, people pick the animal of the year, which is called japanese zodiac as their drawings. Since 2021 is the year of the ox
However, the postcards are getting less used. Some people just send texts and post New Year’s messages on their social media accounts instead of sending Nengajo. It is a little bit sad, but it is changing of times. You can delete a message easily by pushing a button on the phone, meanwhile, you can have Nengajo in your hands forever and look back them.
Why don’t you send Nengajo to your friends and people who you care about?
