Dave Smith was the topic of a recent video from Liquid Zulu where he claims there is a force of pragmatism destroying the liberty movement, and that Dave is the archetype of this phenomenon. At the heart of this debate is the limits of the NAP in guiding our moral decisions and philosophy, as well as disagreements over what libertarians can and ought advocate for in situations where the State still lays claim over many services and property in society. Zulu claims libertarians can never advocate for violating the NAP, where as Dave argues that we must pursue liberty while avoiding the worst possible outcomes in the status quo that only end in enabling State violence and discrediting libertarians. This debate is sure to get heated, but the hope is that what emerges is a demonstration of how libertarians must be committed to both principle, and thinking deeply about how we act strategically in a world that is not yet free.
