St. Patrick’s Day is virtual this year, but we’ll make the best of it. Join us for a discussion of the Knoxville Irish, who arrived in multiple waves, including one very big one. We’ll talk about some Irish revolutionaries who sought refuge in Knoxville (one of whom is considered a legend back home); Knoxville’s first Irish-Catholic mayor, whose astonishing post-mayoral career makes him memorable for other reasons; the saloonkeeper who helped found a major hospital; and the now-forgotten part of the city once known as Irish Town, one part of which survives, unrecognized, today.
