In these Koczalski recordings of Chopin's Preludes Op 28, one will hear stylistic practices that are now abhorred by the high priests of musical political correctness such as the left hand played before the right.( No 13 F# major). The listener will also notice that tempos for certain preludes differ from the usual template as in No's 4 and 18. There are many revelations to be found. The middle section of the Raindrop, the beautifully conceived No 21 in B flat, and No 23 in F major, among others. Also notice that as a pupil of a pupil of Chopin, Koczalski employs a judicious use of the pedal. In other words, he does not pedal as though he was playing Debussy's "Clair de lune" or Balakirev's "Islamey."
One could go on and on. However, connoisseurs of Romantic period performance practice will relish these recordings.
