Learn how to sew a double-breasted button closure on a coat, dress, or blouse. In this tutorial, you will learn to sew the buttonholes and two kinds of buttons: with and without a thread shank. A thread shank is important in buttons that will be used for button closure – the shank will slightly lift the button up from the surface, making it less tight and easier to button. Since the second row of the double-breasted button-through is only decorative, it can be sewn tightly without the shank.
