A bunch of cities and states around the country are sort of dipping their toes into universal basic income and implementing new UBI programs. Some are offering payments up to $12,000. This is absolutely real, so let’s talk about it.

Pittsburgh, Columbia, and Chicago are handing out $500 to various citizens; Los Angeles is handing out $1,000 per month for a year… a total payout of $12,000.

Then there’s Hudson, Ohio, which is EXPANDING its UBI program. Back in September of last year, the Spark of Hudson partnered with Andrew Yang's Humanity Forward organization to create a new UBI pilot program that will give $500 to 25 recipients each month over the course of five years.

By now, you’ve all heard of Andrew Yang. He’s been at the forefront of this UBI conversation and, even though he did not get elected president, he garnered up quite the #YangGang.

For Hudson residents earning less than $35,000, you can apply.

And THEN there’s Kentucky. Rep. Attica Scott of Louisville filed Bill Request 322 last week. Basically, 322 would establish a fund granting UBI for the lowest-earning Kentuckians. If you earn less than the median per capita income of their county, that means $1,000 per month, while those making up to double that would get $500. It would NOT be taxable and would be excluded from each taxpayer's adjusted gross income.

They will reconvene January 2022 to discuss the next steps.

The most classic example of states handing out UBI would be Alaska, which has been famously handing out monthly checks since 1982. Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend payouts range from $331 to $2,072.

The point is, more and more cities and states are quietly testing the waters with UBI. I mean, how many of you have heard of these programs? They are there and people are getting these funds.

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 531,000 for the month, which is incredible if you compare that number with the Dow Jones’ estimate of 450,000.

Private payrolls also rose 604,000 just as we lost 73,000 government jobs. Despite that last number, these numbers are INCREDIBLE.

Now we’re seeing that Minnesota’s unemployment numbers dropped 3.5%. The state's unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of percent to that number back in October, compared to 4.6% at the national level.

Minnesota also added almost 10,000 jobs just last month, which is actually LESS than it added in September.

Now let’s talk about my home state, Nevada. 11,200 jobs were added since the beginning of October, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s October 2021 economic report.
Employment isn’t quite there yet, however, we are still seeing it up 96,700 since October of last year. That’s a solid annual increase of 7.6%.
On a city level: Las Vegas employment increased by 8,400 jobs; Reno employment had an increase of 1,300 jobs; and Carson City employment had an increase of 200 jobs.
