1 Nephi 18 The boat works!

This first book of Nephi has taught me a principle that stands out a lot. Anytime there was some diversity or problem or contention that was overcome…they prayed in thanksgiving or made sacrifices in thanksgiving. In this chapter “they did worship the Lord” and later after Nephi was released by his brothers: “I did look unto my God, and I did praise him all the day long”.

I like to think of the sentence “And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship.” It sounds like Nephi had YouTube to watch the next steps of the boat’s curious workmanship. One factor of becoming like our Heavenly Father is learning how to create. Start creating!

When they arrived at the promised land, the record says: “we did begin to till the earth, and we began to plant seeds; yea, we did put all our seeds into the earth”. They planted ALL the seeds they had brought with them. They knew God had directed them to a fertile spot, but they needed to go to work and not look back.
It has echos of 711, Tariq ibn Ziyad, (for whom Gibraltar is named) crossed the Strait from northern Africa, with his army of about 7,000 and embarked on the conquest of Spain. Facing an army of 100,000 upon landing, he ordered his ships burned, so his troops could not lose heart and flee.
