Topkapi Palace was built in 1478 by Sultan Mehmed II after the Ottomans conquered Constantinople. For almost 400 years, it served as the main home, government center, and ceremonial space for the Ottoman sultans. Over time, sultans added new courtyards, gardens, and buildings. In the 19th century, the royal family moved to Dolmabahçe Palace, but Topkapi remained an important symbol of Ottoman power. Today, it is one of Istanbul’s most visited historic sites, showcasing the splendor of the Ottoman Empire.
