The Former Strathmont Centre - Adelaide's Crying Shame [4K]

Explore the now demolished former Strathmont Centre with Heather from Come Hither with Heather and Werner from Werner's Adventures and I.

This was my first time meeting Heather and Werner too. They are such lovely people and we've since become firm friends.

Take a look inside one of South Australia's "crying shames" where up to 600 people were once institutionalised due to intellectual disabilities and largely excluded from the wider world and community.

Whilst the plan, when designed and first opened was perhaps ideal, Strathmont soon became run-down with dilapidated facilities and many serious reports of brutality, neglect and abuse came to light in later years through State and Federal Government inquiries.

As is often said "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and this was the case for the Strathmont Centre.

At the time of completing and uploading this video, the buildings are actively being demolished and the grounds they once stood on will become a housing estate.
