I was lucky enough to find this un restored 1950s Disston keyhole saw at a local shop. I fell in love with the shape of it and decided it needed to be restored back to its former glory.
Disston handsaws came in to existence way back in 1840 and I am happy to help bring such a beauty back to life for the next generation.
Restoring the keyhole saw was a fairly straight forward process. I used electrolysis to remove the rust of the blade as it is the best way to remove rust with out eating away the parent metal. After that it was just a matter of wire brushing the blade and sanding for a smooth finish.
I removed the old paint/stain from the handle and the wood was really quite nice to instead of restaining or painting I went with the more natural Linseed oil technique to seal the wood and protect it.
The Medallion and screws just needed the oxidation removed and were good as new.
I now have yet another beautiful hand tool to add to my collection that otherwise would have likely ended up in an landfill.
Thank you for watching and please give me a like and subscribe as it really helps me create more videos and get my page off the ground.
