Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire – Exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery

Step into the extraordinary world of exquisite craftsmanship and historical significance at this new exhibition by the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers at Guildhall Art Gallery.

From 29 September to 12 November 2023, this awe-inspiring exhibition will mesmerize visitors with a stunning collection of over 200 rare and beautiful items made of gold and silver wire – from centuries-old robes to contemporary jewellery – many of them viewable for the first time.

Embark on a fascinating journey through history this autumn, as you marvel at the finest collection of gold and silver wire objects to ever be brought together in an exhibition.

Exhibition highlights include garments worn by Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II – the 16th century Bacton Altar Cloth, believed to be the only surviving dress worn by the monarch, and a glove worn by her late Majesty at her Coronation in 1953.

'Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire' celebrates the 400 anniversary of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers. It has been curated by Curator Emeritus at the Royal Armouries, Dr Karen Watts, and will be opened by the Worshipful Company’s Patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.
