One of the big reasons the C2 Corvette Sting Ray was so revolutionary when it debuted in 1963 was its independent rear suspension. Instead of a solid rear axle, the C2 uses a transverse (AKA sideways) leaf spring connected to a differential driving two axle half-shafts out back, which allowed both rear wheels to react to road changes independently of each other—a critical feature on a car destined for a race track.
But that also makes the rear suspension on C2+ Corvettes a bit more complex than one on a live axle car, so follow along as we reinstall Crusty’s trailing arms, toe links, brake hoses, and performance shocks. You’ll get plenty of tips and tricks to upgrade and restore the rear suspension on your vintage Corvette along the way too.
