I start with gravel in my backyard, find which type of rock melts in my kiln, and attempt to make a small test glaze from that rock. Since I was at it, I also tested a granite rock dust I had on hand in a similar way.
One of the fun aspects of owning a kiln is to do experiments like this. I would do these things anyway, but making a quick video for your pleasure makes it twice as fun. Please leave me a comment. I do like comments.
