Extracting lanolin from sheep's wool from scratch at home. Follow along as I boil the wool, strain it, and discover the intricacies of lanolin extraction. I realize that lanolin doesn't simply rise to the surface like wax once it dissolves in water. I therefore reduce the mixture to obtain a raw lanolin, which I then endeavor to purify using water, solvents, and oil. Ultimately, I find that while the result is undeniably lanolin, it proves too impure for skincare products but serves remarkably well for leather care and shoe balm.
