We need to be able to determine if a bond is polar or nonpolar, and we use electronegativity to do it.
Make sure you're solid in understanding your VSEPR models and molecular geometry before you try to figure out if a molecule is polar... the SHAPE of a molecule can determine the POLARITY of the molecule. Just watch out for that!
