We crossed the border from Turkey into Syria and spent 3 days exploring Aleppo. It was a fascinating city: wandering ancient souks, gate crashing a buck's party in a hamman and visiting the world's oldest & largest citadel.
We then caught a train to Damascus. Full of history & interest, it was a place we hoped to revisit someday - although the possibility of returning now seems remote.
