Fallout has always been interested in what comes after the end of the world and the societies that rise from the ashes; the factions that form and the beliefs they cling to in a broken world. A world the vaults would help rebuild, or so people were told. Officially, they were meant to preserve humanity. Underground shelters designed to protect people from nuclear annihilation and allow society to restart once it was safe enough to resurface. In practice, most vaults became something else entirely. They weren’t just shelters, they were controlled environments, designed to test people under unique conditions, both real and simulated. Some vaults didn’t last very long, others for generations, and a few produced the factions and communities that would come to define the wasteland.

Sadly, Vault 22 is usually remembered as just another failure...
