A beautiful 1959 Kay Pacer, model K-6550 Archtop Electric Hollow Body Guitar. This beauty is in great shape. I can’t wait for you to see the original case we have for it!!

These Archtops were made by Kay only one year. This 1959 model had a 16 inch body that was wider. In 1960 the Pacer went to a 15 inch Auditorium sized thinner body. This one with this Kay Logo is from 1959…there are no serial numbers with Kay guitars to check dates. This research came from my catalog research. Hard to figure these Kays out!!

This guitar came to us in really good shape. The body is just beautiful. Only a few dings and such. The full body and neck binding are a beautiful amber color and are attached securely. The Spruce top is beautiful as are the curly maple back and sides.

The 26 inch scale neck has a beautiful Rosewood Fretboard that is fully bound. The original just measures 1 5/8 inch. The neck is not a V shape. It’s a nice round C profile.

We did have to replace the 3 way switch. It was shot. We added the Kay logo from Banana Guitars and the rest is original. The Speed Bump pickups sound awesome. Very strong and well balanced. This archtop roars in the neck pickup! The Single Line Kluson Tuners are also original and are well cleaned and oiled. The original tuner buttons have a great vintage shade to them. We filled a strap button hole on the side. See pic 8. These guitars really need the "old school" headstock straps. You can always put a button on if you want, but its much cooler with the old style straps!

These guitars typically do not play well. This one does. I was relieved to find it did not require a neck reset. It plays as well today as it did when it was new. Great neck on it. Nice and straight even with no truss rod! We added a new set of 11 gauge strings, polished the frets and this awesome guitar is ready to play. A few finger divots in the cowboy chord area but the fretboard is beautiful.

This guitars sounds great ..nice and bright and really loud. The pickups give it a darkness that sounds like a Chicago Blues Club.... Very deep and commanding... The hollow body on this guitar gives it a very unique sound. Very cool.

Check out the incredible vintage original Soft Shell case we are shipping this guitar in. Fits great and all the latches hinges and original handle are still here. Even the accessory box is still with it. Beautiful large Gator print and really nice red plush interior. It as beautiful as the guitar…We repaired some areas of it coming apart. See pic 13. Sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used, however, I have been hand-picking vintage guitars for my customers for over 20 years now and they loved the guitars I found them. This vintage Kay will certainly not be an exception.
