As domestic LED technology has advanced, light bulbs that are intended to replace old, inefficient lamps have slowly evolved into more of a viable option. From the early LED offerings that provided nothing more than cold, weak spots of blue light that was of no use to anyone, to the modern lamps that are now performing well in thousands of homes across the world.

Taking things one step further is the Bell Pro Halo Glass LED GU10 lamp. Taking the lead from the halogen lamps it intends to replace, the Pro Halo not only looks, feels and fits like standard GU10 lamp with its centrally mounted COB chip and dichroic type lens, it also produces the same lumen output as a 50w halogen while only consuming 5w; that's a 90% saving on your energy bill.

The only difference between these glass LED GU10s and Halogen ones is the colour tepmerature of the light itself. Because the filament in a halogen bulb is classed as a "black body radiator", it emits light containing the full light spectrum, including the light that we humans cannot see like infra-red and ultra violet. LED however, does not produce the full spectrum and LED chips are classified into what colour of light they produce. This is measured in "degrees kelvin" and is marked on the packaging in "K"rating. The Bell Pro Halo Glass GU10 comes in three different colour temperatures, 2700k, 4000k and 6500k; otherwise known as warm white, cool white and daylight white. As their names may suggest, warm white produces a yellowish-white quality, cool white a little more blue, and daylight even bluer still. The higher the k rating, the more the light output can be perceived as being brighter and more detailed. It all depends on what task and what room you are in.
