Episode 88 - Foreigner "Long Way From Home" Guitar Cover

In Episode 88, I cover one of my favorite Foreigner songs, "Long Way From Home". The song was written by Mick Jones, Lou Gramm & Ian McDonald and was initially released on Foreigner's debut album. It was the third single taken from the album. First was "Feels Like the First Time" followed by "Cold as Ice."

The lyrics refer to a person leaving a small town to try to succeed in New York City ("I left a small town for the apple in decay") and the loneliness he feels there. According to Gramm, the lyrics are autobiographical, reflecting his experience moving to New York City from his hometown of Gates, New York, outside of Rochester. Gramm and Jones have stated that this was the first song they worked on together.

The single was released in November 1977. It reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. It was also a hit in Canada, reaching #22.

This song and their debut album stand the test of time and sound as good today if not better than I remember it on the radio in 1977. We definitely had great music back then and here is some evidence of that.

Gear used in the video:
I used my Jerry Cantrell signature Epiphone Les Paul guitar with a Dimarzio Super Distortion pickup in the bridge. I had Dimarzio custom-build this for me because I wanted gold poles to match the gold hardware on the guitar. My guitar parts were played through my Eleven Rack which was recorded, mixed, and arranged through Logic. The video was edited with Final Cut Pro. I used the Moises Music App to remove some of the guitar parts from the original recording so I could add my own recorded parts.

I use Ernie Ball Strings because I want the best like many of my idols like Paul Stanley, Jimmy Page, Billie Joe Armstrong, Angus Young, Joe Bonamassa, and Paul McCartney to name a few.
