Happy late Easter (Offensive)!

With the recent battle of Bakmhut in Ukraine, feelings of World War I trench warfare battles have reminded me how as more things change, the more things remain the same.

That goes well with the aftermath of the Vietnam War's deadliest battle that no one seems to talk about.

The 81 day battle of Quang Tri was a demonstration of how determined both South and North Vietnamese Armies were in retaking their claimed land. As part of the Eastern Offensive, it was one of the main targets along the Vietnamese DMZ, which was already highly contested since the 1960s.

Out of all the battles in the war, other than An Loc 72', none come nowhere close to this battle in the sheer ferocity and brutality it brought. It was akin to Stalingrad in 1942 during WW2, with house to house urban warfare and World War I's Verdun with it's muddy trench warfare.

This battle did not involve American or any Southern Allied ground troops which probably is why is less discussed in Western circles.

The Eastern Offensive in general was one of the largest conventional offensives since the Chinese intervention in the Korean War.
