During the SONA 2025 debate, opposition MPs voiced sharp criticisms over the government’s handling of proposals and reforms. Hon. Hanangura Hikuama accused President Duma Boko’s administration of dismissing constructive proposals from the BCP while still expecting solutions from them. He cited his motion proposing a 26-day payment model for teachers, which was rejected without consideration, as an example of the ruling party’s unwillingness to act on practical, solution-driven ideas.
Adding to the concerns, Hon. Taolo Lucas warned that the ongoing constitutional review appears to be progressing without meaningful parliamentary input. He argued that such a critical national process cannot be handled behind closed doors and must be participatory, guided by the collective voice of elected representatives. Lucas urged the President to ensure Parliament is fully engaged in shaping the country’s governance framework.
