🎥 Only a minority percentage of this "dairy's" revenue comes from milk. How is this business model sustained?
Mike McCloskey of Fairlife fame says dairies only last 20–30 years before they are outdated and a new one has to be built. But what will protein production look like in 20-30 years? Will we still be making cows milk from cows, or is precision fermentation a more economic choice?
These are the economics of Fair Oaks. They make:
🐄 $400/year per cow from milk
🥩 50% of calves are sold as a beef-on-dairy calf for $1,100
💩 $300+ revenue from manure/methane/carbon credits
🤖 Labor shortages? Even though $200k robot milkers can now do the work ICE raids interrupted, there is still the infectious disease trap of animal-based protein production.
If this model was economically sustainable, it would not require taxpayer subsidies to prop it up.
Should businessmen like McCloskey build a new dairy or invest in another business model?
