Hike to Lake Twenty-Two, Mountain Loop Highway | near Darrington, WA

This is a very popular hike and the trail can be quite busy, especially on the weekend. I headed out on a weekday in June and had a great time. There were quite a few other hikers, but plenty of space to spread out along the trail. The weather was sunny, not too hot, and there were no mosquitoes or other bugs. The unusual name for the Lake probably comes from the time when creeks in the area were numbered, and it was likely given it's name since this lake feeds the Twenty-Two Creek.
In 1947 the area was set aside as a Research Natural Area - RNA, land set aside to preserve natural ecosystems and to provide educational and research opportunities. It is 1 of 3 RNAs in the Darrington Ranger District.
