The Naanathale Kannam from the 1970 Tamil film C.I.D. Shankar is a romantic duet composed by Vedha and written by Kannadasan. The song is a musical remake of the Hindi song "Dil Pukare Aare Aare" from the movie Jewel Thief (1967). The song depicts a playful and romantic exchange between the leads (Jaishankar and Sakunthala).
Verse 1: The lyrics focus on the physical expressions of love, such as the lady's blushing face and the man's longing calls.
Chorus: It emphasises the magnetic pull between two lovers, where silence and glances speak more than words.
Context: Like its Hindi counterpart, the song captures the "teasing" nature of early courtship, where one partner expresses their feelings while the other responds with "naanam" (coyness/shyness).
