Kumu Hina is a Native Hawaiian who has dedicated her life to preserving and teaching traditional Hawaiian culture, language, and values. As a respected kumu, or teacher, she empowers students through hula and storytelling while advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights and Indigenous visibility. Her work bridges ancient Hawaiian traditions with contemporary social justice, challenging colonial binaries and celebrating cultural authenticity. Kumu Hina's story was widely recognized in the acclaimed documentary Kumu Hina, which highlights her journey of identity, resilience, and community leadership.
