Trumpet Mafia feat. Ashlin Parker and Adam Rapa - Misty

Here’s a clip from a Trumpet Mafia night at the Royal Frenchman in New Orleans. Playing with Ashlin Parker is always an equally humbling & inspiring experience. (Read: I cherish every opportunity to have him kick my @ss!)

We usually end up conversing in high-energy musical settings, and this was no exception, but on this particular occasion it was a high-energy rendition of the ballad, “Misty”. (It’s New Orleans — almost everything is high-energy!)

Unlike many other occasions where 10 or more trumpet players gather, with Ashlin and the Trumpet Mafia, it’s always guaranteed to be a truly musical experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Side-note: Kudos to the rhythm section for not even flinching when I dropped half a bar while playing the melody. (Cue Easter egg hunt!) Guess my internal harmonic rhythm was a little antsy that day, and at the time I didn’t even notice. Listening back, I was amazed at how natural it sounded, which is a testament to their responsiveness. Disaster averted! 😅
