A Day in the Life of A Homeschool Family of Four Boys

Have you ever wondered what a typical homeschool day looks like? How about for a family of FOUR boys and a child with ADHD? In this video I show you what my family's homeschool daily rhythm looks like for a typical day.

We start our day with FAMILY GATHER, which is my version of morning time. We study content-based subjects together, like scriptures and singing, and then come together to discuss other subjects, like history and geography based on their personal reading.

After Family Gather, we take a 20-minute play break, or "recess," when the kids to motor lab or physical play. After a play break we do skill-based subjects like math and reading. I forgot to mention in the video, but when I'm working on math lessons with one child I enlist one of my other boys to do "baby school" with my toddler. He spends 15 minutes reading, singing, and playing with his little brother so I can spend one-on-one time with one boy. They all take turns doing "baby school" and they all get one-on-one time with me.

After individual time it's about lunch and we clean up school stuff and eat lunch. This is usually when I read our read aloud book or listen to music for composer study. Afternoon activities include handicrafts, drawing, clay sculpting, and playing with friends. Our homeschool group meets in the afternoon and we do a scouting lesson and free play outdoors most of the year. And when it's too cold to play outside we have recess games and folk dancing indoors.
