Neil Patrick Harris starred in the title role of this 1989 dramedy, playing a child genius who zooms through high school, college, and medical school to become a practicing doctor at age 14. Initial reviews were mixed, but viewers connected with the characters and overlooked the implausibility of the premise. It ran four seasons on ABC and won several Emmys for sound mixing.
