My film takes you on a tour around the church, showing you the top 10 sensible things to see that are linked to Jane and her family. Saint Nicholas church in Steventon played a very important part in Jane Austen's life, it is where Jane Austen was christened in 1775. Jane was born in the village of Steventon, where she spent the first 25 years of her life. Jane’s father, George Austen, was the rector of this church. She would have gone to church here every week with her family and spent many hours at the church. Her brothers James and Henry were also rectors here. Some of the family of Jane’s brother Edward Knight, were also rectors at St Nicholas. In addition to Jane a number of her siblings were christened here. Jane’s brother James is buried here and the church contains a number of memorials to Jane’s relatives and her neighbours, the Digweeds, who lived at Steventon Manor.

About Jane
Jane Austen is one of England’s greatest writers, her novels are appreciated around the world and frequently adapted for film and tv. Jane was born here in Steventon in Hampshire in 1775. She was the daughter of a rector and one of 8 children. Jane wrote many of her popular novels while living in Steventon.

About Saint Nicholas Church
Saint Nicholas church is a delightful place to visit, at the bottom of a peaceful tree-lined lane, surrounded by green fields and farmland. The area is largely unchanged and it is easy to imagine what it must have been like when Jane Austen lived here. The church is a small, simple Norman building, dating to around 1200.
