The Tenerife airport disaster, which occurred on March 27, 1977, was a collision between two Boeing 747 passenger jets on the runway at Los Rodeos Airport (now Tenerife North Airport). The accident resulted in the deaths of 583 people, making it the deadliest single aircraft accident in aviation history. The collision involved KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am Flight 1736.
