So i think that if some people google like "pcl86 tesla coil" i hope that this video pops, so i'm "leaving it here" for the future generations :D it happened twice to me that someone asked if it was possible to make "a thing" with such tube
An ECL86 is the same thing, just 6.3V, but probably a PCL82 or PCL85 that are similar are a bit less evolved than the 86 but worth a try... a pentode EL84 is a candidate (but those are a bit more precious), also tried with the PL84 but it's an old toob... the PCL84 is another type and it's smaller than all of these
No, you can't use the MOT directly cos the tube will simply DEFLAGRATE at 50Hz, the schematic of the staccato controller is here https://imgur.com/a/teodetE to adjust the trim pot you have to disconnect temporarily the snubber network form the output of the relay, connect a small low voltage transformer on the relay, and with a scope on the output of the trafo you center the half waves for cutting the first and third half waves (negative ones) in the middle, with the positive one untouched in the center, but mind the phasing, the controller also makes up to 4 subsequent positive humps but still at 1Hz
