In today’s experiment, I’m doing something no one has ever attempted before with the legendary TAD CR1 TX speakers — and that’s installing the Critical Mass Systems LS.8 footers under the stands to see if they can take an already world-class loudspeaker to new sonic heights.

🛠️ The Setup: Why This Is a First
No one — and I mean no one — has tried placing Critical Mass LS.8 footers under the speaker stands for the TAD CR1 TX. These footers are known to significantly improve resolution, air, and soundstage in electronics and speakers alike. I’ve used them under DACs, preamps, amps, even home theater processors — and they do make a difference.

The goal? To see if they can reduce noise floor, improve depth, and add more "life" to the sound.

🔁 Switching from Apex Monoblocks to Solution 701
I recently swapped out the Boulder 3050 Apex monoblocks for the Solution 701 stereo amp and noticed a thinner bass response. Why?

Because with the Apex setup, I used two separate speaker cables per speaker — bi-wiring both high/mid and low-frequency terminals. With the Solution 701, I'm stuck using the stock jumper cables from TAD, which frankly are subpar for a $92,000 speaker.

TAD, you need to do better. These jumpers are choking the performance of your world-class product. Consider offering upgraded jumpers or recommending aftermarket solutions.

🎯 First Listening Impressions
After placing the LS.8 footers under the TAD CR1 TX stands, I played a few tracks through the MSB Cascade DAC and — wow.

✅ Tighter, more defined bass response

Even though the tweeter height changed slightly (which can impact imaging), the overall sonic gains were immediately noticeable. These footers will need 10–14 days to fully settle in, but initial impressions are extremely promising.
