Orienteering the Dunes at Dueodde on the Island of Bornholm (Headcam Orienteering)

In this video you'll follow an orienteer through the dunes at Dueodde - the southern tip of the Baltic island of Bornholm. This combination of a varied forest and beautiful terrain and some of the most challenging orienteering on Danish soil attracts runners from both Denmark and Sweden.

The event is "Höst Open" (Autumn Open), an anual event which combines a city sprint with two forest orienteering events in some of the most spectacular terrains in Denmark.

I ran in this area five years ago and got lost a couple of times - both in the dunes and in the forest. This time I decided to stay in constant contact with the map and added dozens of small control-stops - just to read the details on the map. Of course this approach cost me time, but in the end I got through this fairly difficult course without any major mistakes.

At the finish line I meet with club collegue Per whom I had been chasing since the start. He started three minutes before me, and after five kilometers of forest and dunes and the constant presure of making sure you don't make mistakes I almost caught up to him on the last few controls.

Orienteering doesn't get much more fun than this: Two grown men chasing each other in the forest for a full hour.
