Let’s get a little sentimental for this labs project. Many years ago Todd received a picture frame from his young daughter for Father’s Day. The frame had a lovely picture of them both and there was a small button. When the button was pressed a short audio message played that she had recorded, a little voice from the past. What a special gift and the perfect inspiration for this project!

Taking this idea a bit further, why not source a small recording device and build a box around it. What if there was a button on top that could be pressed and play a special message or song… opening the box there would be a recessed heart where a special gift or keepsake could be stored.

Todd runs with this idea and uses his favourite toolpath strategy, the Moulding Toolpath, to decorate the edge of the heart recess for a very unique and upscale look. Using the toolpath in this way is an interesting use of the feature, and requires a little finesse. Todd shares all that he learns and also a few tips on how he include the electronics, hidden hinges and his choice of finish.
