"Basin Street Blues", arr. Moses G. Hogan (featuring Mary Mayo & Timothy David Ray)

To celebrate Easter 2013, local New Orleans artists joined together for a special concert at the Ellis Marsalis Center. This collaborative effort was entitled "A Spiritual Suite for New Orleans", and was led by Lula Elzy (The Lula Elzy Dance Theatre), Timothy David Ray, Ellis Marsalis, Germaine Bazzle, Davell Crawford, Danielle Edinburgh, and Ronald Markham.

The program featured a special choral ensemble dubbed "The New Orleans Spiritual Ensemble", Mr. Timothy David Ray was tapped to conduct the ensemble. The ensemble featured notable vocal artist, including: Ivan Griffin, Dr. Valerie Anne Jones-Francis, Sallier Jay Seals, Dara Rahming, Crystal Morris, Darnell Prejean, Sabrina Mixon, Jalonda Robertson, Lawrence Houston, Renee Miller, Aryane Sylvain and more.

In this video, Mary Mayo is featured performing a beloved arrangement of "Basin Street Blues", arranged by the great composer and arranger Moses G. Hogan (1957-2003). Ms. Mayo recording this arrangement with the famous "Moses Hogan Chorale" and performed with them for decades as they toured the greatest stages and concert halls. Ms. Mayo was 84 at the time of this performance. Timothy David Ray, piano, is also conducting the arrangement.
