This video is a friendly reminder to myself to always check another pianist’s recording at least once before practicing something over and over. I try not to listen to recordings of pieces I’m learning in order to create something I feel like playing (rather than chasing after someone else’s performance), but sometimes I end up memorizing incorrect notes that still sound ‘ok to me’. I’ve done this before and unfortunately did it again this time. Instead of “D double sharp to E sharp” in measure 6, I play “F double sharp to G sharp.” Oh well, it’s not the most egregious offense in the overall musical context, but still. It’s funny, after a few takes, getting one you’re happy with only to find out that you’ve played it differently than written 😂 With that said, I love this joyful little piece. It sounds like something that probably ended up inspiring Godowsky and his writing. It also sounds like something you’d hear on Mr Rodger’s Neighborhood.
