This video is a live recording of my presentation on Èrè Òṣùpá (Yoruba Moonlight Games) at the Languages of the World Day event hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
In traditional Yoruba culture, moonlit evenings were not just for rest—they were communal classrooms. Children would gather under the moon to listen to elders share àlọ́ àpagbẹ̀ (folktales), engage in àlọ́ àpamọ̀ (riddles), and play games that taught life skills, sharpened the mind, and built community.
In this session, I introduced students to:
• Traditional games played by Yoruba children
• A live performance of a Yoruba folktale
• The morals and cultural values encoded in oral storytelling
This was part of my work as a Fulbright FLTA and cultural ambassador, and I remain committed to preserving and sharing the rich legacy of Yoruba indigenous education systems.
