Pear Blossoms by Scott Hayden

Scott Hayden’s only solo composition and a marvelous one it is with such a prominent melody. It is said that Hayden did not finish composing the piece and that it was found and later completed by ragtime performer Robert Darch some decades ago.

This march was deceptively more difficult than I thought it would be to play and is the hardest rag I have learned so far. I had to make some tweaks to the written score to be able to play it since it is predominantly octave chords the entire time (and my small hands can be a limiting factor 🙃).

During recording, I was having a difficult time getting past the middle part without making many mistakes and pausing, so I decided that I will just have to record the piece in two separate sections and combine together (1:25) 😊 Definitely not my best playing or performance, but I am proud of myself for the end result!
