The Glenbeigh Horseshoe is a fantastic, circular ridge in the W of co. Kerry, Ireland. Although the terrain is not too challenging, most of the route over the ridge is off-track and requires proper navigation skills. Best to keep this one for a good day, as the views all along are simply stunning. I did this walk in May 2018, starting from and and ending at the village of Glenbeigh, taking in 12 summits en route. A total of 41.7km with some 1830m height gain, completed in 14h10, with plenty of time allowed for filming and taking photos. Watching the sun set over Dingle Bay from the last summit was truly magical. And I did not meet a soul for the whole time I spent on the high ground, i.e. over 12h !!
This first part will take you up the Kerry Way and up to the summit of Seefin, which offers fine views over Dingle Bay, before heading back and starting to follow the ridge. This may be the less spectacular part of the Horseshoe, still the extensive views are amazing on a good day, with the Dingle Bay and Peninsula to the N, the McGillicuddy's Reeks and the Dunkerrons to the W, and a splendid vista of the whole Horseshoe to the S and E.
