Leaving Houston, TX on Sunset Limited #1 Part 1

This video was shot from the rear of Amtrak Train #1, the westbound Sunset Limited, as it left Houston, TX on July 8th, 2013. Part 1 covers the trip from Houston's Amtrak Station to Memorial Park on Houston's west side, a distance of about 8 miles.

As a note, since this was shot from inside the car, during the video you can hear some talking between the conductor, my father, myself, and some of the other passengers.

The video begins as the train leaves the Houston Amtrak Station at 6:55 PM, which is right on schedule. This is on UP's Terminal Subdivision (Now known as the Houston Subdivision), and the Amtrak Station is on Main 2. Just to the west of the station we pass Depot Jct (CP LF963), and Train #1 gets onto the Main 1 Connector, which is just a long crossover between Main 2 & Main 1.

After a short while, we reach Chaney Jct (CP LF368), where Mains 1 & 2 of the Terminal Subdivision come together. After passing Chaney Jct, Amtrak Train #1 is on Main 1.

Soon, we pass the hotbox detector located at MP 364.1. The detector's read-out reports that there are no defects, our train has 36 axles, the train is traveling 30 mph, and that the temperature is 88 degrees.

A few miles to the west we cross over Interstate 10 at an acute angle. And just a little later we pass Eureka (CP LF369). At Eureka, there is a single crossover and UP's Eureka Subdivision diverges to the north (Off to the left) from the Terminal Subdivision.

We round the big curve at Eureka and then come to Eureka Jct (CP LF370). At Eureka Jct, there's another connector to the Eureka Subdivision (It forms a wye) and the lead to UP's Eureka Yard branches off as well. Soon after, we cross over Interstate 10 again.

The remainder of the video consists of the train passing through Houston's Memorial Park and then transitioning back into urban Houston as the tracks head through the west side of the city.
