Massive cyberattack hits press freedom in Indonesia.
Suara.com was hit by a massive DDoS attack, unleashing 285 million requests in just 1.5 hours, taking the site offline. The attack targeted Suara.com's Special Coverage Channel (LiKS) — known for hard-hitting journalism on politics, law, and human rights.
The botnet traffic originated from multiple countries, including:
Netherlands | Croatia | Indonesia | Romania | Australia | United States
🗣️ AJI (Alliance of Independent Journalists) and KKJ (Journalist Safety Committee) condemned the attack as a direct threat to freedom of the press, warning of a disturbing rise in digital attacks on critical journalism.
📌 Why this matters:
Media outlets like Tempo were previously attacked after exposing political scandals.
Suara.com recently published reports critical of government programs, possibly triggering this wave of cyber aggression.
AJI urges the government to ensure legal accountability for all cyberattacks targeting the press.
