Oneofthepack last trip was 1/20/26, and I’ll be honest—I was starting to feel the withdrawal setting in. With some ugly weather lining up ahead—ice-cold winds, low tides, rain, and whatever else Mother Nature had queued up—I knew a judgment call had to be made now if we were going to beat the worst of it.
So I rang up my first mate to see if he was willing to step into the arena and challenge Mother Nature today (Friday), before she really got herself worked up.
Big Rudy? Absolute trooper. He was all in without hesitation.
Our only real concern was fog… but as subscribers to the long-standing philosophy of “You got to go to know,” there was only one way to find out.
So aboard we went—Bay Flat Jr, powered by the ever-reliable Yamaha Nightmare Machine—and just like that, a trip it would be.
OUR REWARDS
• Lived to fish another day 🙏
• (14) NMR Silverwonders
• (3) hang-ups — lost one jerk bait
• Fog was a problem, but the Navionics App on our phone saved the day. Using it gave us a highlighted route that allowed us to safely run through the fog all the way out to MRGO.
• Perfect day for fishing — Mother Nature was good for us
• Dr Pepper & chips for the ride home — thanks Big Rudy. I needed that, as I always do 😄

LESSONS LEARNED
• Navionics App worked flawlessly.
o My GPS was broken, but this app was money.
o Hold your finger on the arrow (your location), move it to where you want to go, press and hold, and it creates a route that takes you right where you want to be.
o Simple, effective, and perfect in fog.
• NMRs are still along the rocks in MRGO.
• ICW stopped paying off briefly.
o We hit a post holding fish and quickly caught (6) NMRs.
o Just as fast as it started, it stopped — but good confirmation that jerks baits work in that area.
• Airco Products run:
o Nothing going on all the way in the back left-hand side, even along the rocks on the shoreline.
• MRGO rock stretch is consistent.
o From the mouth of Bayou Bienvenue to the Chalmette Wall, we caught one fish every time we tried that stretch.
• Water clarity:
o Rated 4+ on a 1–7 scale, pretty consistent everywhere we went.
